The Female Athlete Health Report 2023

We don’t know enough about female athlete health. We are on a mission to change that.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Project Red-S to understand what athletes already know about their health and to uncover gaps in terms of knowledge or support.

To do this, we launched the ‘Athlete Health Survey’ in 2022 to give athletes a voice, and highlight this issues we face.

Now, we’re launching the findings.

The Female Athlete Health Report 2023 uses findings to discuss specific areas of concern, highlight misinformation, and suggest how sports institutions and support staff may contribute to improved female athlete health and wellbeing in the UK.

Kate Seary, Kyniska Advocacy:

“The shocking results from this report on female athlete health are the symptoms of the historical lack of resources, funding, and scientific study made available to women’s sport. Across the board, athletes and coaches are misinformed on the basics of female athlete health, in turn limiting the performance potential, and most importantly, the health, of female athletes across the UK”

Pippa Woolven, Project RED-S:

“When we released the survey, we were overwhelmed with the response from those who completed it. Thanks to over 750 athletes who took the time to complete it, we’ve been able to build a picture of what we’re getting, and what we’re missing, by way of female athlete health support across the UK.”
