Safer Sport Priorities for Cymru

A new report from Kyniska Advocacy sets out eight priorities for making sport in Wales a safer place for everyone who takes part.

Sport is central to life in Wales, but it is rarely recognised as a setting where abuse and violence against women and girls can occur.

This report calls on the Welsh Government to change that by giving sport a seat at national safeguarding tables, bring clarity and consistency to safeguarding across the Welsh sport system, and introduce a statutory Safe Sport Duty for Sport Wales. It also sets out how Wales can play a full and equal part in UK-wide safeguarding efforts, including a UK-wide coaching licensing scheme.

"Sport is part of the fabric of life in Wales, but for too many people it has not been a safe place. This report sets out practical, achievable steps the Welsh Government can take to change that, and to make sure survivors' voices shape what happens next."

Kate Seary, Co-founder and Chief Policy Officer, Kyniska Advocacy

The recommendations are grounded in the experiences of survivors and draw on the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act to make the case for a sport system that protects people today and for generations to come.
